Thankfully today we have standardized weights and measures and precise instruments by which to measure them. The U.S. Office of Weights and Measures ensures uniformity in weights and measures laws, regulations, and standards. This enables us to have equity in the marketplace and produces consumer confidence. After all, when we purchase a gallon of gasoline at a service station, we want to be sure that we are getting a full gallon for the advertised price.
God is also interested in weights and measures. Solomon wrote in Proverbs 11:1, "A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight." It is not only against man's laws to weigh merchandise wrongly, it is against the LORD's laws as well. He calls such falsifying a disgusting thing. God demands that we be honest in our dealings with others. Because we, as followers of Christ, represent Him, and He is honest. We are to be as honest in our dealings with others as Christ is. "A just weight is his delight." it honors God and he delights in us when we live honestly. Remember this as you do your taxes this season. God bless you! And Lord willing, tomorrow we'll read Proverbs 12 together.
Grace and Peace,
